Chapter Two: Explanations of the Truth

“…Child of the night?”

I heard the words ring back through my head. They didn’t seem to hold the weight that they were supposed to. I wasn’t a vampire or anything like that. Elie had never tried to drink her blood, or force her to do that. No, all they would do is talk, and that seemed enough for him.

It almost seemed to sustain him. She would feel quite sad, and they would talk, about the things that were going on, about her life, and he hers, and she would feel better. At some times, as he talked namelessly about the people that were from his past, she would feel it, she would know his sadness, and picture the places that he was talking about.

But it was always like that, with whoever he was around. She was very sensitive about emotions, even to the point of her parents having her checked, their stress and worry making her burst into tears. The doctors just said that she was a very ‘sensitive child’, that these things will go away with time. But they hadn’t. It was one of the reasons that most of the time she stayed in her room, on the computer, not wanting to be near them. At times, they even seemed to suck the happiness and… and life force straight out of her.

“Are you alright, love?” He asked, sitting closer. Unlike some people who would move closer to her, she did not shrink away. No matter the coldness in his skin, or the strange feeling she would get, she would never refuse him. He never asked much of her anyway, just her words and talking. A vampire would have killed her a long time ago, making her one of the creepers as well. Then she would have to go on some strange, movie like quest to kill the one that made her this way.

She began to shake her head. No, she could never have killed Elie, he had never done anything but kind to her.

“You’re not well,” he said, shaking his head slowly, feeling her forehead, “I should have never told you any of this… you need rest. I’ll leave you alone”

There was an amount of sadness and ending to the way he said it. An ending that she didn’t want.

“No, Elie, please, don’t leave me!” She was stressed to no point of explaining.

“But you don’t deserve to feel so bad. I’m taking away the energy necessary for your survival”

“What?” she looked confused.

“You have not been made a blood drinking. You are what people would call a psychic vampire. You feed off of people’s mood and energy. That is one of the reasons why you can feel tired or stressed and then feel better around people”

“…how did you know that?” I looked up, feeling slightly better, deep furrows in her eyebrows.

“That’s how I was, many years ago, when someone took me under their wing. He wasn’t trying to make be a better psychic vampire; he was trying to get another apprentice. But that’s not how I was. I didn’t want to become a blood drinker, limiting my world”

“But if I was with you, I would not become limited; I would love to be there with you. It wouldn’t change anything; we would be together more than ever”

“But maybe that’s not what you would need. People sometimes say things in order to trick you, and I refuse to do that”

“But you promised me.” She had tears now. “You promised that I would be with you one day. That was one of the things that kept me going most of the time; knowing that in my future I would be with you. I love you”

She immediately regretted the words coming out of her mouth. She sounded like a romance novel to her own ears. That is the sort of thing that people would say at the end of the movie while they kissed.

But that’s not how she was. She was plain. Nothing too special going on, not one of the social butterflies, even somewhat of an outcast, considering that she would basically leech off of people (that’s how he made it seem, at least) and use their emotions for her own good.

“And don’t you think I love you as well?” He looker her in the eyes, a slight bit of questioning to his face.

“No, you just don’t have anything to do”

“I’ve loved you since I first came here. I was going to eat you, but you were a child, and so talkative. You liked speaking to me, and didn’t ask obvious questions, like how I got into your fifth story bedroom window, or why you only saw me at night. And then I realized that we were eating off of each other. You brought back out my psi, and I loved you for that. I never liked eating people, and you helped me survive without drinking people. I thought I was normal again, but it was just with you. That is why I wanted to make you my bride, I could show you how you could be, together, honing our skills. Besides the fact that you are stunning.”

She blushed a bit, biting her lip in thought, realizing that the vampire life wasn’t as awful and disgusting as she had thought of it. And being with the one she cared about wouldn’t be half bad either.

“Alright,” she said slowly, “how are we going to do this”

He smiled slightly, extending his hand. “Get ready for the beginning of the rest of your life”

Seeing that people actually liked what I considered just spur of the moment, I’m updating it. I will keep updating it especially if I see that it’s being read. The chapters might be short like this, but they’ll be more often.
