The Me You See

That piece of glass-

That simple piece of glass-

It shows me who you see.

The girl I am suppose to be.

I see the face and auburn hair,

The form and figure standing there,

I see the cheeks and chestnut eyes

But yet nowhere visible are the lies…

When you look deeper, as I do

The things hidden shine through…

Chestnuts conceal painful memories behind

Awful memories of those unkind.

Upon my face lie upturned lips

They never falter, never slip

But you see not beyond the face,

Of my torture, you see no trace.
