Memoirs of a leaf

The wind blew chanting the treasures of autumn. The nature's way of showing death existed, was digging through the human soul with storms of cold and grey. It came with rain, or was it the other way around…? Nostalgia was hidden in the depths of the now nude branches. What used to be colorful was surrounded by darkness…shadows…their light diminished. And there, in its middle…you stood.

I feel guilty for not freezing you into a frame…You were as careless as you are now…you are the emotionless with little regard for another. You…a sinful Adonis…that stepped on everything and anyone in your path. A blind man that passed through life without a blink. Why didn't you even care? Why was your life? Just a passing through images and voices and no one could have remove you from your thoughts? The scared soul of yours shows that pain passes but beauty remains. For you were beautiful.

A leaf fell in front of you. Still baring the light of life…wandering on the wind's playful wing. It might have seemed even…a gleeful image. It might have meant life was not over…it might have given hope. It might have been a scale with only one pan that would have kept the immortality on Earth. And you saw it…and at the same time you crushed it…stepping over it.

You went on your way…as you have always done, expecting great things and greatness. As if miracles needed your bright blue eyes to go one. Rolls of smoke came out of your mouth and headed towards heavens baring the pain of forever being separated from you. And you went on…kept on going towards unknown places, which call to you, where you cannot feel the wilting of your thoughts or the sound of your sorrow. You had always felt immortal and loved. Mother Nature cried when you did, bared you with flowers on your happiest days...she worshipped you as the ultimate being that she created. She had a calloused indifference towards the suffering of others...and they started praying to you as well. Perfect being…

And as you passed ...behind you that leaf remained. She had no voice to yell after you and no strength to tell you that she's hurt. So she stayed on the same path that dreaded your absence. Rain and wind passed over her. It was a sign for her to fell unwanted? As she was desperate and lost and shattered. You were gone, her very destroyer and yet she wanted you more than the rest. She felt weary and wilted and withered but not like the rest, because the rest hadn't been tarnished by you.

She was one with the earth and the mud and wondering…what would she do if by divine grace, the wind would carry her to your open welcoming palm? Would the warmth resurrect her fallen body, would the gentlest of your touch kill death itself for her? In you she would find the essence of perfection…but she remained there…somewhere…where she cried over your absence.

A leaf fell in your path…and though you saw it, you crushed it to the ground. And who knows how many would they keep on falling? But you will never know…and not even once will it run through your mind…that the first leaf that fell on your path… was me.
