My Dear Autumn

Where did you go to, my dear autumn?

Why did you leave me so suddenly?

Your stay seemed too brief to be welcomed,

When I could have relished you so joyously.

The fun times we had in childhood years

The bundles of leaves I had jumped in,

To anticipate the forthcoming holidays,

They lasted until boredom would begin.

Too many years between that gap of age,

I let maturity and seriousness take over.

I couldn’t realize your startling beauty,

The canvas that you are of endless colour.

I notice now when I have stopped to think,

And simply taste the air and mood around,

That no season is more lovely than you,

Even the tasty smell, the wind’s hollow sound.

The world is set afire by flicks of leaves,

Burning on the trips of rigid trees.

The flames fall onto the cold cement streets,

Bathing the city like the seven seas.

The sunset has been snatched by Nature’s grip,

And held tightly in all the details I find,

From plump jolly pumpkins to a warm fire,

My fair season, your gifts are too kind!

But I was too busy during this time,

The obligations of life swept me away.

If only I’d stopped to smell the crisp leaves,

And could appreciate your for just one day.

But you’re gone, you’re gone, gone for now,

Before I could revel in you, my sweet fall.

Next time around I will celebrate more,

For I’m sure you’ll come next year after all.
