Golden Empathy

She flops down on the couch,
right next to me.
Her head lies softly
and gently on my knee.

I know she knows I feel
like absolute, total shit.
Her drool drips on my leg,
but I know she means well by it.

Her jowls are relaxed.
Her deep brown eyes are mild
as they look right into me,
they tend to drive me wild.

Whenever I’m upset,
she’ll come walking right along
to come stand by my side.
She lets me know I’ve done no wrong.

Everything is calmer
now that she’s by me.
She is my one savior,
full of empathy.
