Alice isn’t Alice anymore-

She’s named Misery, pegged up
like something beautiful (a butterfly
with broken wings) she’s bleeding
black down the backboard and
crying acid tears.

Lit up like a radioactive catastrophe
she’s see through and hollow, emotionally
shallow and almost definitely dead
(to the world) shutting it all out, locking
herself in her own skin-prison, hung
out for everyone to see (dirty laundry(let’s
examine the catatonic bitch to see what
we can find)) little Miss is just some
sort of a mannequin for you to dress
anyway you like (paint her perfect
and pretty with lies and deceit) it
doesn’t matter anymore.

A bad trip and she has smashed
into Wonderland, breaking her bones (brittle
beetles crawling in her skin) and her
face (cracked open like glass, colored crimson
and dyed with drug-tainted blood) little Miss
hooker/whore with her arms crossed over
her (broken) heart(ed) she’s staring up
at the light till she’s blind (a burning pendulum hanging from the sky)
swinging on its chain in her
grungy apartment, she’s
misplaced her rabbit (and so she’s busy
pretending she can’t feel the monster in between her thighs) but
a girl has got to eat.

Where’s her man to foot the bill?
Maybe the Queen has found herself another lover
(the chain around her neck sports
the hearts of those before him).
Never trust a seductress with a sword.

Alice and her rabbit learned that the hard way, and
let’s just pray that
little Miss remembers the rubber
(not that it matters anymore).
She needs the money (what would she do
without the coke in her nose
keeping her stable?) she grins,
lips cracked and skin sallow,
the stranger pulling out to pay
(her new sheets stained but
imagine how much those rings of his could fetch for)
the fucking piper.
