Glistening

Danny Dodger

Breath hissed, like a snake in the bushes

Eyes blinked, like a flickering light bulb

Voice cracked, like a cinder in an ash pit

Screeching to a halt and skidding down

With the leaves beneath my soaked shoes

Face to face with a winter wolf nightmare

My hands pinned down to a thorn bush

With my feet anchored down with vines

Breath hissed onto my bloody lips

Eyes open wide like a deer in headlights

Voice humming on the nape of my neck

But God I’m not ready to let it go

Horror book come to life to the front

Tragic life chronicle to the back of me

That’s when I comprehend I’ll never win

Here’s the day I hoped would never come

Glistening in my cold sweat and spilling

Brimming over the edges and losing control

To numb to feel the pain in my hands

So blood thirsty to think of anything

But the pulse of the ravage beast

Slowly winding down for years

Has brought me to this fate

The last of another’s life

To save my self from

The inevitable

Death
