The Blue Crane
I made a wish
And wrote it on a piece of paper
This I folded and creased, pressed and set
Until in my hand sat a crane
Of startling blue
To match a summer evening sky
My crane and wish alike
-
This crane I set upon my windowsill
Where I can see it every day
And think upon the wish
That I wrote inside this night
A wish that I’ll remember
Because it is my right
A secret wish to tell you
-
My heart beats deep inside me
Hidden from the outside
So too is my wish
Hidden from the world
The heart of a small blue crane
One that’ll never fly
Except inside a dream
