Please Come Home Soon

11:30 P.M.

Little Annie stared out the window,
Watching cars as they drove by
She asked her mommy, "Mommy, when is Daddy coming home?"
Tears fell slowly from her eyes.

Annie's mommy wiped away her tears
And scooped her up into a warm, loving hug
"Do you remember Daddy's letter?
He'll be home soon, my little ladybug.

"Daddy's in the army, baby,
And he had to go fight in the war."
"But why?" Annie asked sadly.
"He wants you to be safe; that's what Daddy's fighting for.

Daddy misses you, Annie
And he loves you more than you'll ever know
He's in Iraq fighting now
So the world will be a safe place for you to grow."

Annie's mommy tucked her into bed
She kissed her and placed a hand upon her heart.
"When you miss daddy, little ladybug,
Remember how much he loves you, and you'll never be far apart."

"I love you, Mommy." Annie said, snuggling into bed.
As her mommy turned out the light and walked from the room
She only barely heard Annie's whisper…
"Daddy, I love you, too. Please come home soon."
