The place where you want to be,
With me.
I know how this works,
And how to behave.
I know the politics and the ‘unwritten’ laws
You cut into your arm Every Night.
I-know-how-you-feel’s all night long,
As you sway back and forth
Form caring to insane,
In my arms.

I can’t control you,
I can’t comfort you.
I can’t do anything for you and it’s
Killing me.
This is what you do for me.
This is what you do to me,
My love
Written in blood, with love,
At the bottom of your note.
You leave it where you know I’ll find it,
On your way out the door,
Scribbled in permanent marker across the walls of the room
There to contain the bed we share.

I am in fetal position in the corner as it
Hits me.
You’re gone and I can’t begin to understand your words.
I can’t begin to understand how I could think that we could work.
I can’t begin to understand why we didn’t work.
I love the sound of the marker making my words clear
As I scribble a reply across the wall.

I love the sound.
