The Ghost of the House

Last Hallowe’en, Sarah and Emma decided to go to a deserted house, where the people in the little village they lived in said were ghosts and evil spirits. Nobody had enough courage to enter the place in a hundred years, and some old inhabitants merely did not appear anywhere near the house.

The house was brown, and it did not have many windows. In fact, there was only one window, and it was placed in a cupboard according to the legend. There was not any electricity in the house, and many of the inhabitants doubted there were not any candles lit in the house ever.

The house had two floors and a basement, but there was not any attic. The ghosts and the evil spirits were said to be invisible, and every midnight they sang an awful song without words, which was terrible to hear. But, the walls of the house were charmed, so the villagers would not hear and know that the spirits were there.

According to Sarah, all this was rubbish. Emma did not know whether she believed in it or not. Sarah was a girl, who did not believe in anything without ‘concrete’ proof. But, that day, on 31st October, they were both very bored. So, they decided to visit the house.

When they entered, they could not hear a sound. Everything was peaceful and quiet. Then, the ghosts (or whatever it was) started screaming. The legend was true!

‘Sarah!’ said Emma. ‘There actually are ghosts in this old place.’

‘Maybe, but maybe we are both imagining it.’ She was as white as a sheet in her face. Then, another noise appeared, frightening them both: ‘Who are you of mankind who are entering my house?’

Both Sarah and Emma screamed and ran fast down to the village. When they had run for five minutes, and stopped, panting against a wall, Emma said:

‘Oh, dear, the legend was true after all. And do not come telling me there are not any ghosts in the old house.’

‘I won’t,’ replied Sarah. ‘Now, I’ve got proof enough to believe in you.’

Emma awoke after a terrible nightmare, where Sarah had admitted there where ghosts in the old house. It actually had! She looked at her clock and drifted back to sleep. A vampire slid behind her back …

OK, I know the end is very bad, but I wrote it on an English lesson. We had had a test, but about ten students were missing then, so they did it that lesson instead. There are three different groups in the English lessons at my school: Green, Blue and Red. Green is easiest, and Red is hardest. I am in the Red group (and I have one of the world's best teachers). Anyway, our teacher made up we were going to write an essay - a short story about Hallowe'en. And it should be more or less scary. Since I am very easy to scare, I dislike horror texts. I am pretty bad at writing horror as well. My speciality is humour, andmaybe romance. Depends on what kind. Anyway, my beta reader for my recent Fanfic (can be found at my profile, link on my FictionPress profile) said it could be interesting - but I think she thought I meant that I would write an Horror Fanfic which took place on Hallowe'en. Anyway, hope you liked it, Janis!
