Rise of the Voidmark

Prologue

In the beginning of the world of Validor all magic was free and unbound. This meant however that many Black sorcerers could use it to their dark ends and did. They started a great war against the Guilds and eventually the void magic threatened to destroy all Validor. So after the war and the Black mages were defeated; the greatest adepts in the Guilds of Fire, Ice, Lightning and Earth bound it. They devised marks to control its power. They divided it into five sections. The Great Marks of the Warp after their Guilds. The Firemark which controlled all fire magic. The Icemark which controlled Water and Ice. The Lighteningmark and the Earthmark. The fifth they bound and called the Voidmark. It contained the darkest magic in its Mark and the knowledge was warded and erased from the minds of all living things. So for seven hundred years there was peace. Till a young and foolish male Warp Adept called Caridan found the secret out and became intrigued. He unlocked the bindings of each mark for he had learnt all their magic. He unleashed the Voidmark’s power yet again and it destroyed him. The power transformed him into a monster and he caused havoc, death and destruction in the world.

Then the Guilds rose against him with the help of the Warp Adepts (The only people able to use the magic of all five marks.) and after a war of ten years he was defeated. Peace was restored. But the secret of the binding had been lost long ago and the void magic was free once more as it had been in the beginning. So it began over a number of centuries. The plains of existence were torn apart. The border between Life and Death wore thin. Elementals from the seven plains emerged into Validor. They wreaked death and destruction. And in the east a dark power was rising. Necromancers roamed free once more. The Dead stalked the land of the living. All were waiting in fear. For the return of the Warp Adepts. The circle of events was nearly complete.

Vidra the Necromancer and Void Adept drew her sword. She was wearing purple robes and had long uncontrollable blonde hair and black eyes that were a stark contrast. Her black and silver sword was marked with the symbols of death and destruction from the Voidmark, they crawled lazily over the black blade and started to twist around her hand as she began the warding charm which would protect her from the Seventh plane elemental she was going to summon. Vidra was an assassin as well as a necromancer. However she had long outlived the natural span of her years and was beginning to lose herself to the Void magic that had kept her alive for these last two centuries. This would be her last treacherous act against the Guilds before she passed over the border to death for the last time. This last time there would be no return. She didn’t want to die but it was preferable to losing herself to the Void magic.

The tendrils of purple magic uncurled lazily from her black blade to wreath her. The last circled her and she took a pipe from her waist pouch. Drimar The Caller. This was however no ordinary penny whistle. She spoke a word of command and the pipe began to play itself. However no sound escaped to the mortal plain. This call would only be heard on the seventh and last plain. By a Fire elemental. Vidra felt one respond and drew Karis The Dominator. This pipe would play when the elemental emerged onto this plane. It would bend the creature to her will. Then she would send it on its mission. To kill Icemark leader Syphilis. Her lips drew back in a snarl as she thought of her enemy.

Then her thoughts snapped back to the present as the creature emerged. Karis sounded. The flames around the tall woman-like elemental dimmed and vanished. The creature’s fiery glow vanishing as bright marks swirled around it to reveal a young woman. Vidra noted that she was tall had bright green eyes and long black hair tied back by a leather thong. Vidra was disgusted. The last of her strength expended on calling a Fire Adept in morph from the seventh plane. Then she smiled. This could still work. Then the girl fighting hard against her will drew Derin the Defender. She was going to fight. The pipe sounded as she used the activation mark with the last of her free will. Derin cut across the sound of Karis and the two women fought a furious battle of wills. Vidra felt her strength being drained as she fought the magic of the other Adept. The girl won. Karis fell silent.

Vidra slumped to the floor. If she could just perform the rite in time she could come back as a void elemental with her personality intact for a time. Then the girl drew Jaren the Banisher. The note sounded pure and Vidra felt all sensation dulling. The girl was a first circle adept then. Only someone with that level of training could resist Jaren’s insistence to go with the banished into death and never return. Vidra screamed her rage at being foiled and her spirit fled to the seventh deep of Death. Resting amongst the flames of the lowest circle.

The girl whose name was Karis after the pipe as was tradition in a Warp Adept’s family turned away as the ward fell knowing her job was done. The necromancer was banished to the furthest reaches of Death. She put her pipe away and picked up Vidra’s set along with her sword. She spoke three words, “Jarhsa, Tristar Dorvan.” The sword and pipes burnt to ash in a white hot fire. She then did the same to Vidra’s body.

Turning away she cast the charm of changing and transforming. Moments later an elemental vanished. Going back to the seventh plane. She had much still to learn.
