She Flew
He woke up to a distant gaze; under eyes he thought he knew.
The eyes that sparked were then so dull; and for those who witnessed, few.
She held to him the knife so blunt; her world a biting edge.
And she spoke to him of scars as deep; the scathing lives of dredge.
He answered her a promise; the words a curtailed lie.
And knew that every phrase he spoke would cease her will to fly.
With every tear, his soul was torn; with every sob, his heart.
And with each betrayal his pride was met; the turning point; the start.
But when she asked to end his debt, to show her what she thought was true,
His consent was all there was; the knife was plunged, and there! She flew.
