FIREFLY

Beneath the shades of the willow tree,
I sit watching the river flowing free,
In the cold night with no stars to see,
The clouds are stagnant between the sky and me;

I was not exiled but I am one,
From being the danger I’d rather run,
I regret the error that I have done,
By staying away from the shining sun;

I wonder why I am not too bold,
To separate the body and soul,
Before the darkness swallow me whole?
And then... i see... flicker of gold!

A dreary buzz is heard in the night,
A firefly dances with its little light,
A watchful eye never let it out of sight,
A retired heart regains its might;

And only by watching the firefly dance,
I finally know there is another chance,
No, I do not wish to be its close friend,
Nor become the firefly to the end;

At least by watching you I will be fine,
Though I silently pray for you to be mine,
And leave it to Him without waiting for a sign,
Yet I never try to catch you or your kind;

Beneath the willow tree I stay,
The vines touch the ground as they lazily sway,
Please, firefly, please don’t leave me astray,
Thither or hither, just… don’t go away…
