The Hello Eyes

You look at me
like I'm only
the most incredible thing you've seen.

Tears in your eyes
are a surprise.
You look like this is the best second of your life.

You purse your small lips
as you look at my lips
and realize that we will never again kiss.

I touch your cheek.
A smile leaks.
Strange that we've both forgotten to speak.

Hug me tight
with all your might,
and I'll hug tight what I can't call Mine.

Blink our tears;
they show our fears
of not having each other near.

A heart-stopping glance
but not a chance
that we could've made our love last.

O, those eyes.
They say goodbye.
And my eyes muster the same reply.

Although I know
I'll miss you so,
this isn't goodbye. This is Hello.
