A Shadow

A shadow – a reflection – an echo –;

All three lost in a glimpse.

They bring about a tide of emotions,

A wave of interpretations.

But a shadow – a reflection – an echo –

Mean nothing in the world.

- - -

A shadow will follow you around,

Watching your every movement.

The shadow will mimic all you do.

They say imitation

Is the highest form of flattery.

Yet none are pleased

When they have only their shadow

To cry with.

- - -

They all conform to be the same:

Shades cast across the floor.

Is there no way to escape the same?

The assimilation of the shades.

Soon, will we follow their lead?

Soon, will we become who they are?

- - -

Shadows are said to symbolize so much,

But is that really true?

Can there be basis in a fact

About something that never was?

- - -

A shadow – a reflection – an echo –;

All three lost in a glimpse.

They bring about a tide of emotions,

A wave of interpretations.

But a shadow – a reflection – an echo –

Mean nothing in the world.
