Standing outside on this darkest of nighttimes

Standing outside when the veil is thin

Voices of spirits are heard in the darkness

Softly they whisper, “Let me come in”

-----

CHORUS:

And they say:

Come to me, end your troubles

Free yourself, leave the light of day

Lose yourself in sweet and gentle slumber

Cast this life and all its pains away

-----

Moon shining brightly enchants and bewitches

Spirits entreat us to join their kind

Fingers entwining in hair and in clothing

Pulling us onward to leave life behind

-----

CHORUS

-----

But we smell the rain and things growing

And we feel the earth and the fall

Breathing deep we re-embrace living

And we turn away from the call

And we say:

Not today, now is not our time

We shall stay and live out one more year

Hear us now: we choose life over death

Go now, tempters, lead us not from here!

)O(

A/N: Creepy, huh? The tune is all minor key and scary. The last verse and chorus (well, the second version of it anyway) look like they’re in a different rhythm, but trust me, that’s just cause of the weird stuff the tune does. They are sung the same way as the other verses and choruses.
