Sunset Boulevard
I sat staring at the beautiful sight before me. The sunset stared back at me with a peaceful sort of look that could soothe all souls who gazed across the lake. This place reminded me of the days I was younger, around four or five years old when I used to come here with my best friend, Davey. He sat beside me now, his eyes not leaving the sight of the blending of the colors before us. He smiled slightly and looked at me, searching for my heart it seemed through the depths of my eyelids.
I laughed and pushed his face away from mine as I stood up and wiped the sand off my legs. "So what’s with the romance night? You just suddenly want to come watch the sunset again? We haven’t done that for years! Oh crap-." I stopped and swiped a bug of my foot, glancing around for more. The bug lay splattered on my hand.
"How charming," Davey whispered, rolling his eyes playfully. I laughed and punched his shoulder, walking away slowly enough for him to follow. "Wait up!" he called, chasing after me. I laughed again and took off running, my feet pounding against the ground and the sand flowing between my toes. It felt good to be with Dave. It was such a wonderful experience to be able to study his eyes and practically uncover his soul. Nothing in the world could keep me away from his smile, either. His face lit up like a jack-o-lantern, even when I told my usual lame jokes. His favorite quote was always "Never frown when you’re sad, because you never know who’s falling in love with your smile." I used to always smile for him after that, grinning from ear to ear myself, hoping it made him smile as well.
"Hey, do you remember those times we used to put rocks under your sister’s pillow and how long it took her to realize what it was? That was hysterical! We got her everytime!" I smiled at the story he had told a million times before. Davey stroked my hair as we flopped back down on the sand, smiling slightly.
"Your hair is so smooth and straight. I love it!" Davey ruffled my long blonde bangs and I hit him on his redheaded head. Davey stuck his tongue out and rolled over on his stomach.
"Your hair is pretty too!" I said, not necessarily convincing him.
"But your smile is as beautiful as a freshly picked rose, still covered with the wetness of dew."
"Does that mean you’re falling in love with it?" I asked, staring him in the eye.
"Maybe it does, Hannah. Maybe it does."
