Enjoy!

Hamilton High School, Newburgh, Nebraska

7 hours before invasion

“John Weils?”

“Here.”

“Becky Sanchez?”

“Here.”

“uh, Yoo-shy Too-she?” the teacher struggled with the foreign looking name on the roll sheet.

“Yoshii Tooshi.” Called out the owner of the name. He was a short, black-haired Asian looking boy.

“He’s a foreign exchange student.” One student piped in.

Yoshii grinned as the teacher asked where he was from. He had lived in Newburg for about four years now and every semester this same trick was played. Best of all, it never got old. His grin grew even more when he answered with a greatly unexpected word.

“Germany.” Yoshii reveled in the baffled look on the teacher’s face. “I know what you’re thinking.” He replied helpfully, “and you’re right, I’m not really a foreign exchange student.”

After taking up half the class he was finally able to convince the teacher that he had been born in Japan, moved to Germany and now lived in Newburgh. After a full day of duping the teachers that hadn’t already been forewarned, Yoshii strapped on his rollerblades and sped home. He was eager to get the mail before his mom got home. He was expecting a package that he really didn’t want his mother to find out about, at least not yet.

When he got home he looked in the mail box and let a little sigh that was half relief, half worry. Only letters were in the box witch meant his package hadn’t arrived yet, but it also meant that he would have to beat him mother home again and again until it came. As he carried the letters inside and walked past the kitchen he heard something that made his stomach fall down to his feet.

“Yoshii.”

“Crap.” He replied blatantly at the disappointed sound of his mother’s voice. He turned to the kitchen to see his mother sitting at the table with an opened package. If you were to see the two together you wouldn’t suspect that they were related. Yoshii’s mother was a tall, brown haired woman.

“Yeah, about that…” he began, but he was cut off.

“You know how I feel about this.”

“Yeah, but--”

“You know why I don’t want you doing stuff like this.”

“Well…”

“Well what?”

“Is there any thing I could say that wouldn’t get me in deeper trouble?”

“Not as I see it.”

“Then I plead the Fifth!”

“I’m your mother, you can’t plead the fifth.”

“Dang it.” Yoshii replied pulling up a chair. “I know what I’m getting into an-”

“That’s what you said in Germany.”

“That was an isolated incident and I’ve learned from my mistakes.”

“Then why do you insist on doing this?”

“Same reason Dad did.” He said quietly.

“I lost your father because of this and I will not lose you!”

“I know what I’m getting into!”

Their shouting contest was interrupted by the sound of the front door opening and closing.

“Saved by the boyfriend.” Yoshii said.

“I can still cancel you know.” His mother said menacingly and as a man by the name of Franklin Tows entered the room.

Franklin was a somewhat stocky man with a black mop of hair and his hands were almost always covered in grease, reveling that he was a mechanic. He usually had a very calm and laid-back demeanor, but today was one of the rare exceptions. Franklin looked worried and was sweating profusely.

“Frank? What’s wrong?” Ms. Tooshi asked, quietly hiding the package.

“You haven’t heard? It’s all over the news!”

“Sorry Franky,” Yoshii joked, “you know we haven’t watched the news here since 1842.”

“This is serious, look!” Frank turned on the small television that sat on the kitchen counter. As soon as he flipped to the nearest news channel they saw it, hundreds of bell-shaped machines floating in the air. The reporter stated that the international super-hero team ‘The Force’ would be there within the hour to asses the situation. Yoshii frowned, every strategy he knew of could be se in motion in that time, and with technology like that these aliens could get it done quicker. He looked over at his mother; she was thinking the same thing too.

“Say, mommy dearest, it looks to me like those big ol’ death machines are awfully near the home of my good friend Stan Humphrey. Perhaps I should go into town and check up on him.”

“Stan?” she then remembered the secret meaning of the name. “Oh, uh, well,” she looked at Frank, “I suppose, but be careful.”

“Great,” he said, sliding past Frank, “I’ll just go grab a few things from my room and be on my way.” Yoshii rushed up to his room and reached under his bed. He pulled out a large wooden box and opened it. Inside was his armor. After throwing most of it into his backpack he pulled out the utility belt and strapped it on. He made sure it was hidden under his shirt and made his way to the front door.

“Yoshii.” His mother caught him just before he left, “you’ll need these.” She handed him the package. Inside was a set of tasers that had been rigged to fit on the back of the hand.

“Thank you, mommy dearest.”

“yeah, whatever, how’d you get those anyways?”

“Gregory, you know weird kind back in Germany?”

“Oh, yes, Gregory. Listen, first real superhero you run into out there, I want you to stay with them, promise me, ok?”

“Aww, but that would just cramp my style.”

“Promise me.”

“Fine, first superhero I see I’ll stick to them like a bad cold.”

“All right, now be careful.”

“Aren’t I always?”

She shook her head as Yoshii ran out the door. He ran off a good distance, until he was sure he was in a safe place. He dumped the armor on the ground in front of him and got it on. Within minutes he strapped on his roller blades and went full speed towards the city not as Yoshii Tooshi but as the hero that would soon be known as Iron Clad
