I know your eyes

they ask me questions

questions too painful

too painful to comprehend

my heart isn't broken

isn't shattered

left in pieces

just a bit dented

a bit worse for wear

a few more tears

spilled from these eyes

but now that love

is just words

written by the lonely

who lost the hope

the gift of ignorance

but that pure little hope

was better than this longing

the longing that took its place

when the look in your eyes

told me it was gone

when the questions took the place

of the playful love

that once was
