“Hey sleeping beauty.” Michael said, looking back at me. “Finally awake.” I smiled at his image in the mirror, careful so my sister did not see me blush from the attention given to me by her husband. Even though it was wrong, I’d had a crush on him for years.

“Dava, where the hell are we?” I said, sitting up and looking out of my window. It was completely dark, and all I could see was the headlights from the on coming traffic. I looked at my phone. The time was 11:43 and my reception? Gone. Calling a friend would be so not an option.

“We’re in Los Banos. It’s going to take a while to get to San Jose, Edenne.” Dava replied, looking back at me. She was extremely beautiful, with short brown hair, cut at the middle of her neck, deep brown eyes, and naturally tan skin. Looking at her, I had no idea what the hell happened with me. My long, brown almost black hair –although wavy-hung lifeless around my face. I-thankfully-had naturally tan skin, which was attributed to me being mixed. My best feature were my eyes, deep almost black eyes, but hidden behind a pair of dark rimmed glasses.

“Yeah, what’s your hurry, I thought you liked spending time with us, Eddie?” Michael said. He was the only person in the whole world allowed to call me Eddie, not even my sister had that right.

We continued driving, for about an hour. I put my head phones on and was met by the voice of the singer from my favorite band. After a while, Michael pulled into a gas station, parking away from the pumps. “Hey, what are you doing?” Dava asked him, lifting an eyebrow quizzically.

“I have to go to the bathroom, and I can’t hold it anymore.” Michael stated. He got out of the car, walking swiftly to the bathrooms. Dava and I got out laughing, and leaned against the trunk. We sat there for a couple of minutes, watching the various people drive up and leave.

“Where is that man?” Dava asked, to no one in particular. “He never takes this long.” I shook my head and shrugged, when I noticed a man coming out of the gas station. He had long reddish-blonde hair, and green eyes that were easy to see, even from a couple of yards away. He started walking towards us, and Dava nudged me, noticing the attention he gave me.

“Excuse me miss?” He said, with a slight accent. “I’m sorry to bother you, but I noticed you from inside the gas station and I just had to come and say hi.” He took my hand and kissed it, making me blush. He smiled this devilish smile, and I now wonder why I didn’t guess what he was before. Then I wouldn’t be in this mess.

I started to ask this stranger what his name was, but as I opened my mouth I heard a scream coming from the bathrooms. Dava and I looked at each other, the terror in my eyes matching hers, and we both ran. The bathroom door was partially opened, and what I saw chilled me to the bone. A man was holding Michael, biting him on the side of his neck, pools of blood trickling from the wound. Dava screamed, and the man looked up and smiled, dropping Michael to the floor with a sickening thud.

“Damn you Sebastian, you were supposed to save me some.” The green-eyed man said nonchalantly, slowly walking past me. He bent down in front of the slowly expanding puddle of blood and dipped his finger in it, then stuck it in his mouth. “He tastes good.”

As Dava and I stood there shaking, the man called Sebastian replied: “Oh but, Salem why worry about him when you could have one of these fine young ladies here?” He walked over to us, sniffing everything. “Umm, type O negative, my favorite.” He smiled that devilish grin, the same one that Salem had used one me when we were standing by the car. Dava was standing next to me, and could feel her shaking with fear. This was not the case for me. Surprisingly I was not nearly as scared as I should have been. I felt drawn, to both Sebastian and Salem, though I had complete knowledge of what they were.

“Oh…yeah.” Salem said walking over to the both of us. He then performed the same sniffing act that Sebastian had, only he ran his hand along our stomachs and lower backs, making Dava flinch and me shudder with excitement. “I’ll take this one. I love it when they are scared.” He grabbed Dava by her back, pulling her towards him, and bearing his fangs. Dava screamed and I shouted: “No! No!” shocked that both Sebastian and Salem looked up from their newly acquired meal.

“Take me instead.” Was the next thing that came out of my mouth. Both vampires looked at me with both brows raised Shocked that would be so bold.

“And why should we take you instead, huh Eddie?” Sebastian inquired, walking towards me from his spot by the sink. I balked at the sound of my name, for now I was getting scared that they knew it without it being said.

“B-because- I won’t fight you..a-and,uhm..”I started. My heart pounded out of my stomach, at the sound of their laughter. “Because I’ll…uhm…go w-wit h you, where ever you go. If you kill her now, then you won’t have any…later?”

“Just kill her, Salem, I’m bored with this one already.” Now I was getting angry.

“Or I could just go out and tell everyone I the station what you are and how you killed Michael and my sister.”

“No one would believe you.” Sebastian retorted. Salem paused, almost like he was considering what I was saying. I got bold, and turned to open the door, convincing them that I was serious.

“That might not be true, Sebastian. There are some people that would believe her. Either way we cannot let her expose us.” Salem said, still holding on to my sister.

“So why not just kill them both?”

“You can’t.” I said, feeling like I had some control in the situation. Sebastian laughed and said: “And why is that?”

“Because, people saw us come in here- and people inside the gas station saw Salem. If you kill us, then there is going to be somebody who notices.” Salem looked at me for a long time, weighing his options. He either took me with him, instead of killing Dava; or his risked both him and Sebastian being exposed. I felt like I was waiting for ever for his answer, when finally he said: “Alright, fine. We take you.”
