Alive

You know that brief moment, where time seems to stop sudden. You don’t notice it, of course not. But it does…

The sky above you is a grey shade, like that sweater you should’ve grabbed on your way out the door. Now you may not notice it but time slows down to a crawl as a drop of water is released from the sky. All you notice is that sharp intake of freshness when you inhaled. The air was suddenly a lot lighter, and you felt that first drop. It touched a most insignificant part of you. Not your finger, not your nose, not even your flushed cheek. The moment this drop left the sky, a gentle breeze carried it on a slight tilt, and it was heading for your arm.

Not just any part of your arm that you take for granted, but it falls gently on the most obscure part of your forearm. Suddenly you’ve noticed a part of your body that you’ve never felt before. The sensation has offset a chain reaction within you. Another intake of breath, the freshness sweeping through you. This one drop that was released from the heavens, a gift from a heavenly being Himself.

You were privileged to one brief moment of awareness, and now you roll your eyes to the sky awaiting your next chance to feel so alive. The sky smiles at you, cracking the wrinkles in the clouds as we do when we smile, and you are showered.

The sleeping might say we are showered with rain, the weary may say we are showered with chances, but the awoken are certain that they are showered with life. As the rain dances along your face, neck, arm, legs, skin, your body comes to life, and never before have you felt so much at once.
