“Come dance with me!” the Goddess sings
out to her consort nigh
“We’ll stir the seas, bring down the rain
and make the plants grow high.”
She calls out from the ocean-sea
where fish and dolphins swim,
he answers from the forest deep
where beasts do prowl with him.
“I’ll come and dance with you my love
together we shall mate
and form a seed of life’s rebirth
a spiral we’ll create.”
And so the God and Goddess danced
and linked on Beltaine morn
to be a sign of life from death
the God to be reborn.
“Come dance with me!” the Goddess sings
out on Midsummer’s day
“We’ll reaffirm our vows as one
an older, stronger way.”
She calls out from the fresh green earth
where fertile plants grow high
he answers from the blue expanse
the endless reaching sky.
“I’ll come and dance with you my mate
the sun it shines above
when daytime’s power’s at its height
we’ll reaffirm our love.”
On longest day and shortest night
the God and Goddess met
while still with youthful countenance
their paths already set.
“Come dance with me!” the Goddess sings
a mother soon to be
“the fruit is heavy on the vine
the babe grows strong in me.”
She calls out from the harvest fields
the golden ripe’ning grain
he answers from the falling drops
of fertilizing rain.
“I’ll come and dance with you my sweet
although my power fades
we’ll dance on through the equinox
where light does balance shades.
And so the God and Goddess danced
the day of Lammas bright
when harvest fields were growing tall
with dark still less than light.
“Come dance with me!” the Goddess sings
“this day of autumn’s gift
the wheat is tall, the corn is ripe
the flour’s soon to sift.”
She calls out from the apple trees
with fruit all round and sweet
he answers from the tumbled stones
the rocky mountain feet.
“I’ll come and dance with you my wife
this Mabon harvest day
when daytime balances the night
my strength will fade away.”
So on this day of light and dark
the God and Goddess spun
while she was heavy with the babe
his life was almost done.
“Come dance with me!” the Goddess sings
the crone of death’s journey
“I’ll join you in the otherworld
no mortal eye can see.”
She calls out from the midnight sky
where stars are crystal clear
he answers from across the veil
so far and yet so near.
“I’ll come and dance with you my life
when sunshine does return
for now we must remain apart
until the seasons turn.”
On Samhain night across the veil
both God and Goddess reigned
but even as the Crone she showed
rebirth that would be gained.
“Come dance with me!” the Goddess sings
the mother of the sun
“come celebrate the light’s return
with laughter, food and fun.”
She calls out from the icy moon
that glows with silver light
he answers from the shining sun
that rises from the night.
“I’ll come and dance with you my shield
together we shall spin
and bring the warmth on through the cold
the hope that beats within.”
The Goddess gave birth to the God
on Yule, midwinter’s day
as cycle of rebirth was shown
the son did lead the way.
“Come dance with me!” the Goddess sings
now resting from the birth
“the snow is melting, air is warm
we’ll reawake the earth.”
She calls out from the guiding flames
within the fire’s heat
he answers from the warming breeze
that flies on wan’dring feet.
“I’ll come and dance with you my friend
as I grow older still
and you grown younger every day
we’ll dance on snowy hill.”
When on the day of Imbolc fine
the Goddess queen of flame
danced with the God who was her son
their ages grew the same.
“Come dance with me!” the Goddess sings
a maiden pure and fair
“we’ll make the buds bloom on the trees
the birds fly in the air.”
She calls out from the flowing brooks
where many waters run
he answers from the shifting sands
that heat beneath the sun.
“I’ll come and dance with you my heart
together we shall sing
this time of equal day and night
of joys that grow with spring.”
So on the day Ostara warm
the Lad and Maiden spun
they linked arms and they danced around
with heady, springtime fun.
And so the seasons spin around
their cycle every year
and if you listen to the Earth
their story you shall hear.
of how the Goddess met the God
they danced and then he died
but she gave rebirth back to him
and was his youthful bride.
Beltaine, Midsummer, Lughnasadh
then Mabon, Samhain, Yule
Ostara, Imbolc, then again
comes Beltaine back to rule.
The sun it spins on through the sky
the moon it spins around
and in their symbols seasonal
are God and Goddess found.
