One long and lonely night

A solider weeps and cries

His friends were lost to the war

The solider was all alone

He and his family were miles apart

Too far to give to him a scrap of comfort

In his time of need

The solider felt all alone

He though of why he was fighting

But his efforts seemed meaningless

“How can war bring with it peace?

Besides, I am all alone.”

The tears never stopped coming

He knew they would be his last

The bombs never stopped destroying

The solider knew he was alone

Glancing sadly at the gun in his hand,

The soldier laid it down

He knelt to pray before he met his Maker

He hated being alone

In a whisper that could scarcely be heard,

He spoke,

“God, I know I’m not perfect,

I’ve done and seen so many things,

But if you choose to listen once,

Tonight, hear my plea.

“Let angel’s intervene

To let our prisoners walk free

And also, God be with me as

I finish what must be”

The solider rose, gun in hand

Sadly, yet with a newfound awareness

He stepped into the battle

He knew he was never alone.
