“Oh shush you! You’re only doing it to yourself. You won’t take the medicine I offer you.”
“Yeah, that’s because when you rub that medicine on me it only gets worse and more puss oozes out from me!” Sora whined.
“Well that’s because it is getting out the infection!” Cylus kissed Sora slowly and brought his hands to the boy’s pants. He was about to undo the zipper when Sora stopped him.
“I’m not in the mood.”
“Oh come on Sora! We’ve only done it once and you know you enjoyed it!”
“Cylus…look at me. I’m all cut up and bruised and all infected.”
“Where? All I see is the most beautiful creature to ever bless the world with his presence.” ‘Come on Sora. I’m not at all upset that you don’t want to have sex. It’s the fact that I just can’t seem to please you anymore. Or even make you happy.’
“Yeah and this “beautiful creature” is going to be leaving this world in four months,” Sora said sullenly. Cylus took the boy into his arms and held him closely. Sora rested his head on his love’s chest…listening to the plum haired man’s heart.
“Sora, there has to be a way out. There just has to!” Cylus said desperately. ‘Oh there is Cy, it just includes me getting killed.’
“I can’t see any other way.”
“Maybe we’re not thinking hard enough! Let’s go take a walk in Central Park…we can think there!” Cylus suggested.
“I don’t want to go anywhere.” Sora pulled himself away from the older man and wrapped his scabby arms around his legs.
“You never want to do anything anymore.”
“If you were about to be taken away from everything and be tortured for the rest of eternity, you wouldn’t want to do anything either!”
“Yes I would.”
“No you wouldn’t.”
“Yes I would. I’d want to spend money like crazy, and get drunk, just have fun with the remainder of my life, go places, see new things, I’d go bungee jumping and skydiving!”
“Yeah, to bad we don’t have enough money for all that.” ‘Maybe if he took me skydiving, I’d “forget” to open my parachute and die. But wait…that would be suicide and then it wouldn’t count so Narathesisus would be able to get me. Damn.’
“Sora, please. I want to make you happy. I’d do anything for you and everything. If you want to spend all the money we’ve got then lets go do it.”
“You need that money after I’m gone.”
“Nothing will matter to me if you die.”
“Well then sorry! Nothing is going to matter to you cause I am going to die! And we’ll never ever see each other even in death!” Sora ran into the bathroom and Cylus heard the door lock. His green eyes looked around the dirty hotel room. ‘We have to move. Maybe that will cheer him up.’
“Where’s Jayden?” Cylus asked as he looked around the now empty room where Jayden once inhabited.
“He checked out while you were recovering,” Sheryl answered. Cylus felt a little sad. He wanted Sora and Jayden to be friends. Maybe having a new friend would make Sora happy. He’d have someone else to hang around with instead of always being cooped up in the hotel.
“Do you know if we have his phone number on file?”
“We do…why?”
“I want him and Sora to be friends.”
“You can’t force friendship,” Sheryl said matter-of-factly.
“They seem to be a lot alike though.”
“Go look for it in the file room.” Sheryl said. Cylus watched Sheryl leave the staff lounge. She was acting differently. She wasn’t her normal self anymore. Usually she was so giddy and upbeat. Now she was acting…normal? Cylus whistled as he walked down the busy halls. Patients were walking with their doctors or family. Doctors and nurses chatted to each other and smiled as Cylus walked by. In a place where death can sometimes occur, the hospital looked quite happy. Everyone was happy…except for Cylus. While these people watched their families or friends recover from illness, broken limbs or any of the random happenings here, Cylus knew his love was dying. Dying slowly and was constantly overwhelmed with a feeling of pure loneliness. Cylus searched the files for Jayden’s phone number. Upon finding it he wrote it down and stuffed it into his pocket of his blue scrubs. He still hated the outfit they were required to wear.
“I’m fine. Just a little tired. I’ve been having a bad past few weeks.”
“It’s about that god isn’t it?” Dani asked.
“What? I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Sora said quickly.
“My father told me. He thought it was best for me to know when you finally…”
“Die.” Dani scooted closer to Sora and rested her head on his shoulder. “What are you doing?”
“I’m being here for you.”
“Thanks but I already have someone,” Sora said scooting away from Dani.
“Oh…who is she?”
“She isn’t a she. He’s a he.” Dani’s eyes widened.
“You’re gay?” She asked him. ‘Uh oh! She’s my only friend I can’t lose her!’
“…Yeah. I’m sorry.”
“Why are you sorry! I’ve never had a gay friend before! This is so cool! Oh we can have so much fun together! Like going shopping or going out to teen clubs!”
“I’m not in the mood to go be around other people. You and my boyfriend are the only people I want to be around.”
“How come you never talked about him before?” Dani asked as she got a Coke from the refrigerator.
“Because…I never had to. I don’t know. You never asked me?”
“Haha! Well, I’m obviously single and straight. And I liked you but now I think I should move on.” She sat back down and opened her Coke.
“That may be a good idea. I like you only as a friend. A really good friend.” Dani smiled brightly at Sora. But through her smile Sora could see the pity she had for him. The sympathy. He didn’t want any of that. He just wanted to live and get it over with. Even if he was going to be tortured forever…he could finally stop waiting.
“Sora! You home?” Cylus asked as he dropped his long, black jacket on the floor. He had given up trying to keep the place clean.
“I’m right here.” Sora said as he finished painting his fingernails a bright green. Cylus noticed another figure in the room. She had long braids that reached her waist. She looked Japanese.
“Who’s this?” Cylus asked as he sat down on the bed with the two.
“She’s my friend Dani. I’ve known her ever since we got here. I just didn’t want you to worry so I hadn’t told you yet. But I am now! Please don’t be mad at me.” Sora hung his head. It felt good to stop lying to both of them but at the same time he felt even worse.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Cylus.” The green-eyed man didn’t want to further sadden his love. Sure he was upset Sora didn’t tell him about this friend, but he was happy Sora had someone else to spend time with.
“So you’re his boyfriend then?” Dani giggled. Cylus smiled. At least Sora wasn’t afraid of letting people know who he was. Cylus nodded and kissed his love on the cheek.
“What was that for?”
“I have a surprise for you! And you’re friend can come too if she’d like!” Dani nodded and the three left the hotel. Cylus brought them to Chelsea and stopped in front of an apartment building.
“What would you say if we lived here? I’ll show you the inside in a minute, I just want your first reaction.” Sora smiled brightly. He would live closer to Dani and they’d be able to spend more time with each other when Cylus was at work.
“I’d love it! Dani lives in Chelsea!” Sora jumped up and down with Dani as the two did something similar to a high pitch scream, but it wasn’t because they were being brutally bashed…just because…well Cylus didn’t know.
“You want to come in and take a look at the apartment I bought?”
“You already bought it?”
“Yeah, when I got lost way back when we first got here, I found this appartment had a place for rent. It’s a one bedroom and bath apartment with a kitchen slash living room slash dining room.”
“That’s a lot of slashes,” Dani giggled. Cylus smiled at the girl. He was glad Sora found someone as nice as her.
“I wanna see inside!” Sora said excitedly. His heart felt a sudden pain, like someone was grabbing it and trying to squeeze it till it exploded. He fell to the ground coughing a bit.
“Sora!” Both Cylus and Dani yelled as they came to his side quickly.
“Was it the god?” Dani asked.
“Wait! You’ve told her about this?”
“Her dad knows a lot about it. The god’s name is Narathesisus.”
“Maybe he knows a way to get you out of this!”
“I’ve already asked him. He doesn’t.” Sora felt his already hurting heart ache even more as he continued to lie to Cylus. The blonde prayed that Dani wouldn’t say anything if she did know that there was a way out of it. And most likely she did because of her dad.
“Well, even so. We’ll still keep trying. I’m not letting you go!” Cylus picked up the small boy and carried him inside the apartment building with Dani by his side. They rode the elevator and came to the fifth level where their new home was. Cylus put the boy down softly and made sure he could stand on his own.
“It’s so cute!” Dani squealed. Cylus laughed at the girl as he watched her eyes widen.
“Yeah, did you already buy all this furniture?” Sora asked looking at the nice sofa.
“No, it came pre-furnished.” Cylus watched as Sora walked around the living room area.
“Must have been a lot of money.”
“Not really. I got a good deal.”
“It’s a good thing you only got one bedroom.”
“Sora, we always stay in one bedroom, even when we do fight, and stop being so damn negative about everything. I know you’re hurting but guess what! So am I! I hate watching you slowly die, you’re fading more and more each day and you look so sad and sickly. I hate seeing a new scar on you when you wake up and I feel like dying sometimes when I hear you crying in the shower! I know you’re hurting, but not once have you noticed that I too am dying slowly with you.” Cylus was crying by the end of his outburst. Dani stepped back not wanting to get involved in this.
“I’m going to leave. I think you two need to be alone to sort things out. I’ll see you later. Nice meeting you Cylus!” She called as she left the apartment. Sora and Cylus stared at each other for a moment.
“I’m sorry,” Sora stated sadly. “Just, I guess when you know you’re going to die, you forget about other people’s feelings and just worry about yourself.” Cylus wrapped his arms around Sora tightly and nuzzled his face into the crook of Sora’s neck.
“I’ll always forgive you. Do you want to get your things and bring them over here now? I’m already paying for rent so we can move in whenever you’d like.”
“I’d like to move in now.” The two spent the rest of the night getting everything packed up and sent over to the new apartment. There wasn’t much talking between them. They both had other things on their minds. Sora’s main thought was how he was going to break it to Cylus that the only known way out of being taken by Narathesisus was to be killed. Cylus’s main thoughts were how he was going to cheer Sora up and make the rest of his days the best ones he’s ever had in his life.
“There, all finished. I even unpacked your clothes into the dresser.” Cylus said looking around the apartment. It felt good finally being out of that horrible hotel room. Finally they had a place to call their own.
