Death of a Unicorn

Spiral horn,
That greets the sky,
Shining, ivory,
Never to die.

Eyes so soft
So black so smooth,
They reflect only kindness,
A calm unnatural mood.

Hair of white,
White as snow,
A mane so fair,
Beyond what all man knows.

Those hooves emulating,
A deer-like shape,
That tail of a lions,
With a natural strength.

Standing still ,
Waiting searching,
Looking for a virgin,
A maiden who's worthy.

Finding such,
With a sweet and gentle song.
That rings through the air,
Beautiful to all.

It steps forward,
To greet her gentle hand,
It sighs in relief,
And lays its head in her lap.

A moment of serenity,
And soft innocence,
Shattered by humanity.
Of man and greediness.

An arrow wisps through the air,
Its path already set
It plans to hit the beast
Its fate is met

An elegant blossom,
Of scarlet red,
Forms upon the creature,
Imposing death.

The creature pleads,
With silent eyes,
To the virgin maiden,
Whom it idolized.

She had betrayed it,
For all it was for,
To gain that trophy,
The ivory horn.

The beast now lies,
Silent as ever,
Waiting for its demise,
In the calm winter weather.

And so it comes,
With the hunters scythe,
It swoops in one blow,
To cut through the night.

And so it is,
The beast has died,
Laying motionless,
Stripped of its pride.

It’s lost it horn,
It’s lost its life,
To the irresistible bait,
Of a virgin bride.
