Brick Masterpiece
dedicated to checkerboxed and rodwenn-challenge fulfilled.
I should be sleeping, but instead
I’m remembering today.
You & I walked through our old New England town,
Admiring Christmas decorations
And holding each other close,
Against the cold. We paused at one house,
A hundred-year-old brick masterpiece,
Dressed up in white lights and snow.
You kissed me straight on the mouth
As we stood in front, and while my eyes were closed
I imagined the house being built, each brick being laid
Exactly in place, so that we
Could have this moment here,
One hundred years later.
