Forever, He Said.
There was a love so pure and bright,
dawn seemed endless, there was no night.
‘Forever’ was so real to her,
but he was not completely sure.
Yet he always said he loved her so,
that he couldn’t bear to let her go.
And so she lived in blind belief,
to hear those words was a relief.
Until of course he did forget,
all of the things he ever said.
From tortured eyes she did perceive,
the broken promise of this thief.
He stole first love away from her,
and for this loss there was no cure.
She crawled into her dark, warm bed,
and tried to drive all thought from her head.
Still, she helped him through the rainy nights,
said ‘your heart will tell you what is right.’
And when her own cried out in pain,
she sang a song that kept her sane.
When it seemed all hope was gone,
with nothing left to focus on,
she said goodnight and went to bed,
with anything but sugarplums in her head.
