The Snow Falls First
The sky turns grey, as the first flakes fall upon my face.
My heart leads me to a special thinking place.
Here I need not worry about how many tears I cry,
Or how many spoken words are absorbed into the sky.
With only six feet between us now, I feel lesser alone.
We speak of how times have passed; I whisper to your stone.
My eyes are filled with heartfelt tears,
That have been collecting throughout these years.
Each one slips off my cheeks and slowly hits the ground.
You comfort me without a word, and not a single sound.
Speaking through the rustling leaves and wind tangling my hair,
There is not a single second that I doubt you are there.
You lead me through a fence, and to an awful place,
Which showed of forgotten wreaths and flowers gone to waste.
I fled from there, only to be led someplace worse,
You showed me where they burnt the bodies delivered in a hearse.
I trusted you to lead me into a forest that I had never been in before,
And by the time I got out, I emerged with something more.
You guided me through the branches, and broken down oak trees.
I followed your directions, as indicated by a breeze.
And even though I was all by myself,
I could feel the presence of someone else.
Not for a moment did I feel afraid or lost,
I know that you will always guide me, despite the coming frost.
I found myself in a forest.
