i smoked half a cigarette

and i mailed the other half

as soon as you smoke it

think about me

i hope you woke this morning

with the sunlight on your face

and your heart beating

in the right place

do you recall the time

we were drunk on wine

and you took hold of my hand

pulled me in the road

and told me

you were going to be mine

and i gave so much forgiveness

when i gave myself to you

and the powerlines were melting

this can't be the last time

i'm going to arizona

it might be the last you'll hear

i'll be pushing amarillo

when your words reach me

this can't be the last time

i knew it when i heard Purple Rain

while it played on the subway station

and shattered our hearts into a million pieces

this can't be the last time

this can't be the last time i see your face
