“I’m terribly sorry,” said the doctor as Daisy felt her heart diver into her gut and splash inside her. She ran to the bathroom and leaned over the toilet to relieve her guts and heart out through her mouth. Why did this have to happen to her? She was always precocious and so was considered to be uptight. It was surprising she had a boyfriend because of this….

Daisy was a good Catholic girl who had been going to church and listening to the sermons all throughout her life. Now that she was in the high school, she could be in the confirmation class. Daisy had everything figured out in her life; her opinions were set and her future was planned perfectly. Or so she thought. When her first and current boyfriend asked her out, she did not know what to say because she had not planned things out first. Louis was the most perfect boyfriend that Daisy could have ever hoped for. She trusted him so much that, once they had been dating for two months, she allowed him to convince her to have sex with him. They used protection, of course… Daisy could not let anything get in the way of her future and she made sure Louis knew that.

But when the doctor told Daisy that she was pregnant, she felt like there had been an earthquake in her brain. She couldn’t think or talk. She shook constantly for two months. She did not tell anyone until Louis asked her what was bothering her after they had sex again. He had noticed something different about her a while ago, but he thought it was just stress from school taking a toll on Daisy’s body. When she told Louis, he seemed proud and told her that he wanted her to have the baby.

Now, being Catholic, Daisy believed that abortion should not be legal. But she just could not have a child right now. Her life was just starting to fall into place. She was just accepted into a top college and had all of her plans for the next few months figured out. This could not happen at a worse time for her. She wondered what life would be like if she did have the baby. How would she get through college? Would Louis really stay with her even though he promised her he would? What would she do if he did leave her? How would she pay for everything? Before this had happened, Daisy thought she knew everything and that everything would fall into place as planned.

Over the next month, Daisy debated in her head about the pros and cons of abortion. She had not believed in it before, but would it be the right choice for her in this situation? What would Louis think and do if she did go through with it? Would she regret it years later or would she be glad she kept going through with the original plans?

Louis stayed by Daisy’s side throughout this month. Daisy was touched by this gesture, but felt like she needed her space for a while, so she broke up

with him. He would constantly call her and ask what she was going to do about the baby. Two weeks later, he mentioned to her that if she did not want

to get an abortion, she would have to do it within a week because if she waited any longer, the baby would be too far developed for that to be an option.

That night, Daisy cried instead of sleeping. She rubbed her belly and talked to the life growing inside of her. She went over everything in her head a

million times over again, but could not make any sense of the words she was saying….
