The Mirror

You gave me life to let me die

Like a porcelain doll in your eyes

I was to live forever a lie

Another dream of yours set at birth to die

I shattered the mirror that proved to show

Nothing but the life you sowed

To let me live to let me die

Can you see the pain I live?

"No, and that is why I disappoint you."

I gave my life to let you live

Struggling on through thick and thin

I changed the world so you could smile

And yet you still frown, all the while

I shattered that mirror that proved to show

Nothing but the life I used to know

Can you see the pain I live?

"No, and that is why I hate you."

I left you behind, so much to do

To save the world you long to prove

Is more than just a memory

It’s paradise and so you see

I shattered the mirror that proved to show

Nothing but the paradise that is faux

Can you see the pain I live?

"No, and that is why I shun you."

I saved your life and left you a scar

That you hide from world like that hidden star

That leaps behind its larger cousin

Whenever it happens to be the season

I shattered the mirror that proved to show

Nothing but what might have been but so

You have seen the pain I live

And lived through it so much stronger than I

"Yes, but you lived through it too, and that is why I love you."
