We tasted the stinging essence of adulthood

And spat it on passing dark suits;

We kicked down the walls of “expectations”

And casually shook the dust from our boots.

-

We spoke sinful delights, dropped like trinkets,

Wove them with laughter and life;

We made covenants of breathy, untold secrets

Unspoken between knowing eyes.

-

We became two halves of a ragdoll,

Held together by a hug of stitches;

We became the blood and bones of each other,

And each others’ casket of riches.

-

You taught me how to forget, in flight

Over burning, discarded dreams;

We beat Prejudice in a staring competition

And tore stereotypes at the seams.

-

We grew up together reluctantly,

Stretching sluggishly up from our roots;

We tasted the stinging essence of adulthood

And spat it on passing dark suits.
