What was 9/11 and why is it important?
Nine eleven is the day America woke up from its slumber. None really realized that people hated America with such a passion until we saw the towers as well as American flags burning in the streets. None realized the capability of the highjackers, and what they could get away with. On nine eleven we were caught off guard and completely blind-sided. Heck, we couldn’t even communicate between the sections of our lovely government to find the high jacked planes and tell our pilots. Two pilots were sent to the New York City area but since they thought it was a Russian missile, they were out over the Atlantic. There were mistakes made on that day that led to irreversible consequences. The day will be infamous in America.
On September 11, 2001 four planes hit the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon while one crashed on the way to Camp David. One news story I found particularly interesting was of people just in the streets in NYC talking. People were just plain talking, shouting and crying. There were protestors on the five year anniversary saying that god hated America. That these people were meant to die, thanking god for dead soldiers. In my opinion they have no right to be saying those things when thousands of people died on September eleventh two-thousand and one. September 11th was a wake up call to America. It was important because it was like a slap to the face showing us that we are vulnerable and need to step up on security. It’s interesting how we go to war when terrorists demolished and destroyed our homeland when these things take place everyday in other parts of the world. Now I am not saying that we shouldn’t have gone to war, because getting Saddam Hussein was a victory that did humanity some good and saved future lives. People do have more of a voice these days, but September 11 was a turning point in the way we see the world. I am sure that some people turned on their TV, said, “that’s really too bad,” or, “Oh my god!” and then changed the channel and went back to eating their lunch. Americans have never really dealt with attacks like this on their home soil except for Pearl Harbor. But even then we knew who the enemy was. That day we had absolutely no idea who high jacked the planes and flew them into the twin towers, the pentagon (which was meant for the white house) and into a field.
As for ground zero I believe they should rebuild the towers to their former glory, to the former height, in all their splendor, I believe we should show the world what happens when they awaken the kraken. Yes, some parts of the world loathe us and hate us and take every opportunity to slander our way of life. But have we ever made plans to crashed planes into buildings to kill innocent lives? Has America ever been a terrorist? That is a powerful question, and in my opinion and to my knowledge, no. America has not forced anyone outside our country to adopt our way of life, to eat our food, and to wear our clothing. We are not united under one religion to destroy a specific way of life and wipe out a country.
On September 11, we made a decision. We woke up from the coma of peace and found ourselves vulnerable, but we sure as heck bounced back. Our stock market, which the terrorists had wanted to crash, bounced back and opened just four days after the planes crashed. We pulled out of our recession in one month. We are one heck of a country. We are one nation, indivisible, with liberty, and justice for all.
