Chapter 1
Highschool. The highest of the high. The God of all Gods. The…worst time of a teen’s life. Oh yes, highschool sucks especially Kingsley High. Stereotypes rule the school. Your appearance is everybody’s first impression of you. If you walk around wearing pants ten times bigger than you, shirts that look like dresses and hats slanted to the side, you’re considered ‘ghetto’. You prowl the halls with Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, and Aeropostale, you’re preppy. Wear all black with chains and spikes and baggy jeans and look like a vampire? Everyone says you’re gothic. Do I have to go on?
My friends and I have many stereotypes. We’re known as skaters, gothic, scene, whores and sluts (my female friends are), and the oh-so-wonderful ‘emo’. The guys and I don’t skip around wearing clothes that look uncomfortable to the lower body parts. We don’t die our hair or put highlights in it. Our hair isn’t longer than Aerosmith either. The girls don’t dress like your stereotypical scene or ‘emo’ girl. My band, we’re more alternative than anything else. People probably call us ‘emo’ because of our band name From the Depths. I guess it does have its ‘emo’ ways.
Patrick Lawson, the rhythm of the band and back-up vocalist, is a class clown. We believe that Patrick was born with red hair and he died it dirty blonde. Patrick also has sea-colored eyes which Ellie likes to joke about and call him Barbie. He’s the tallest out him, Elliot, and me, almost 6’0”.
Ellie Delatorre, the bassist and a true redhead with her wild attitude. Her bright blue eyes could make any man worship her in a second. Always energetic and in a playful mood, Ellie brings lighter side to the band. Many of the girls at school are jealous of Ellie because she hangs around Patrick, Elliot, and me. They call her a whore, assuming that she’s slept with all three of us, mostly Patrick, which isn’t true. Patrick’s girlfriend, Katherine, and Ellie actually got into cat fight over that. However, none of us have ever dated Ellie before.
Elliot Gonzales-Cuaves, our drummer, and person-who-is-always-late-for-band-practice. The shaggy black hair and dark brown eyes mix together well with his quiet personality. Elliot plays on our school soccer team, the Kingsley Falcons, which tampers with our band practices. Out of the entire gang, Elliot has the most common sense. We’re all a bad influence on him and his parents are aware of that so they try to keep him away.
Valerie Kamiya and Alex Sanchez are our ‘roadies’. They record videos and take pictures. Valerie is our crazy Japanese rocker. She highlights her hair crazy colors (right now its purple) and makes her own j-rock clothing to show to the school. Valerie keeps her black hair cut to her shoulders with her bangs cut in a slanted position, hovering over her brown eyes and mix-matched colored contacts. Alex is a gorgeous Puerto Rican girl with long curly brown hair and light brown eyes. Alex is also bisexual and isn’t afraid to show it as she walks around, hand-locked, with her girlfriend, Hallie. Funny thing though, people still accuse Valerie and Alex of being whores who’ve already stolen our virginities. No, that’s not true. Valerie prefers the metro sexual and Alex prefers girls over us any day.
Finally, me, Leon Bartlett. Yes, my name is Leon. I’m a quarter black and the rest, Latino which is where I’m guessing I got my good looks from. I was adopted about three years ago but that’s another story; one that I don’t care sharing anymore. I’m the main vocalist and play lead in From the Depths. Apparently I will be the hottest guy at Kingsley High, alongside Patrick and Elliot. Maybe it’s my sexy eyes. Hazel is always better than just plain brown. Wondering if I have a girlfriend? No, a lot of my female classmates are sluts who just want me to fuck them. That’s been going on since middle school. I know, it’s shocking.
We haven’t started highschool yet but its coming. One more week until hell shoots down on us. Why, you ask, do we assume highschool won’t be fun? Middle school was a bitch and going to highschool with the same students isn’t going to be any prettier. The parties, the drugs, the sex, the lies are all coming head on and I don’t think we’re prepared for that.
