Uniforms make judging people for their clothes a lot harder to do. When everyone is wearing the same thing, people can’t make fun of others’ dress. There would be less grouping and labeling with uniforms. People would hang out with others more for their personality than their clothing. There would be fewer classifications as prep, punk, goth, jock, emo, nerd, etc., because everyone would be wearing the same thing. With uniforms there would be less labeling, we aren’t soup cans after all.
As some of us know, it can be hard waking up and having nothing to wear. With uniforms the problem of limited clothing wouldn’t exist. Everyday would be the same outfit, only the accessories would be different. People who can’t afford many items of clothing wouldn’t have to worry about wearing the same clothes over and over. It would be very convenient to have uniforms for many people.
One down point would be that uniforms limit the ability for individual style. This is solvable though because the right hair, makeup, and accessories will show your style. Shoes, jewelry, and backpacks can show personal style too. As long as the colors of the uniform aren’t too unmatchable, anything is possible. Style is only limited to your imagination, uniforms are only a small crimp in this style.
Uniforms are a great equalizer for schools to have. It’s sometimes tiring planning outfits each day. It’s also tiring being labeled and constantly having people try to shove you in a category. Nobody deserves to be confined to a box and sticky tagged. I think it would be a great thing to have uniforms in a school.
