A fun assignment using all the different types of paragraphs (this year in grade ten).
With these simple instructions you will be able to turn on any kind of light switch. In the first step you must wait until it is dark, because artificial light is not needed when natural is available. After you have affirmed it’s dark, you must move towards the light switch. Make sure you are careful of dangerous obstacles such as couches, tables, chairs, or glass doors. There are several different kinds of light switches and depending on the type your light switch happens to be, the directions may vary. For your standard light switch you must read to see if the switch says ‘on’ or ‘off’, if the switch reads ‘off’ you can proceed to flick on. To turn on a dimmer switch is slightly different. You must turn the knob in a clockwise direction to your preferential brightness. The touch switch is a very simple mechanism, simply touch the lamp’s base and you will have light. The clap switch is a relatively new piece of technology which state of the art sound receptors to give you light. To turn this brilliant innovation on, you merely clap your hands. There are many kinds of switches and some are very confusing, but with these instructions you will become a professional in no time!
Descriptive
This shady young stranger was unlike any other. A black mask covered the right of his face; veins of gold in swirling Celtic patterns broke its ebony surface. The left was hidden by long, poker-straight black hair. Green eyes peered from beneath this curtain of hair, green eyes surrounded in black kohl. His skin was a creamy golden hue, his lips full and coral in color. His demeanor was dark and mysterious, to match his looks. Little was known about the son of Lord and Lady Serpentine, only that he was rich and didn’t get out much. His black cloak swirled in the night breeze as he jumped nimbly out of his shadowed carriage. His tight, leather, riding boots reached to his knees. His smile was scornful; a real grin had never graced his face. His voice was as exotic and smooth as chocolate; a deep and strange accent. Silver stitched stars spread across his black shirt like sparkling milky veils. His eyebrows were arched and his chin and nose finely chiseled. Mystery cloaked the tall, dark, and handsome stranger.
Persuasive
It should be illegal for individuals under the age of eighteen to smoke and to purchase tobacco. In Canada, it is illegal for people underage to buy tobacco, but it is perfectly legal for them to smoke it. It doesn’t make much sense. Most current addicts started to smoke in their high school or even middle school years of life. If a law were enforced so that teenagers weren’t allowed to smoke, many people would never start at all. Making underage smoking an illegal activity would stop many new addictions from ever occurring. With less smoking there would be less deaths due to the harmful chemicals in cigarettes and other tobacco products. Tobacco chemicals can cause such diseases as lung cancer, emphysema, asthma, bronchitis, and blood clotting to name a few. Even if people started smoking at 18, instead of 12, it would delay their demise. The younger a person starts smoking then the younger they are at death. If a smoking law was created and enforced, teens wouldn’t be allowed to smoke then lives would be saved.
Narrative
Yesterday may not have been perfect for partridge hunting, but it was perfect for me. It was three o’clock and I was ready. My camouflage jacket was buttoned up, my army hat was on, and a crow call hung around my neck. Scott passed me the bullets; we buckled our seatbelts and were off. A trail of red dust followed the white truck as we drove down the back roads, scanning the bushes for the chicken-like birds. The trail eventually got too narrow. It was time to hoof it. I carried the bullets proudly, watching as my brother crept stealthily in the underbrush. Suddenly, there was a high-pitched squeaking: a squirrel. I slowly walked towards it, coming within a couple inches of it. It was so cute! A little farther up the trail a partridge flew out of it’s hiding place. We lost it though so we headed back. We drove to Bayside next but still couldn’t get any partridge, so we went home. The woods smelled wonderful, and the temperature was perfect; I had a lot of fun. I was glad we didn’t get anything. I hate killing animals, even if it means partridge won’t be on the menu for a while. It wasn’t a very successful hunt yesterday, but I had a lot of fun walking through the woods with my brother.
Introduction
Are you interested in fashion, shopping, clothes, makeup, and everything mall related? I love everything about it, even the sore feet. It’s like I always say: “Shopping is a girls favorite sport.” Well, that may not be true about all girls, but it is certainly true for me. I rifle through every rack, looking for sweet deals and new heels. Of course I don’t always go for the brand names. You should never play the name game; it’s expensive and pointless. Why buy $100 jeans when $15 will get you something just as classy? Thrift stores are the best way to get unique and original outfits. The vintage look is in girls! Dressing different is sometimes a hassle to do everyday, but funky jewelry can add a sizzle to your plain tee. Mmmm, The food court! After a whole morning of shopping the best thing is some great Chinese food, Manchu Wok anyone? Trust me, you have to eat a little; the whole shop ‘till you drop thing is overrated. Next time you have an empty Saturday, don’t sleep in, head to your local mall for a great way to spend a day!
