Frank’s Escape

Frank closes the door,
And slams his fingers in the car,
He looks around the block and shimmies into the alley.
He’s a gamblin’ man,
And like always,
He ran,
After shooting up Johnny Sack in the West End Bar.

The boys in blue call for back-up,
“There’s a 217 here,”
And that copper Jones gazes into Johnny’s cold eyes.
He sees the bartender and says,
“Hey Ramirez,
Get me and my friend a beer.”

Faye looks out the window, sees Frank and yells,
“Hey! What happened? What went down?”
He’s buzzed up to her room, covered in blood and dirt.
He says, “Faye,
I need some money and clothes for a day,
I’m lookin’ to get the hell out of this town.”

That copper Jones sees the bloody footprints,
Looks over, and follows them out the door,
And he yells into his walkie-talkie, “I’m in pursuit!”
His stare goes to the ground,
At the tire-tracks he found,
Says, “Keep a lookout for a Camaro, a 1974.”

Frank is back on the street again,
He sees his boys lookin’ for some fun,
Then he runs over, tells them he needs some protection.
“You’re bleeding from your side!
And there’s some glass in your eye!”
Two or three follow behind him, while Frank loads his gun.

And that copper Jones’ gettin’ closer,
As he drives past them to the docks,
He talks to dispatch, “I’ll cut ‘em off at the pier.”
He prays for his life,
Kisses a picture of his wife,
And positions himself by some rocks.

The boys see that copper Jones,
And there’s a bloodbath at the beach,
Frank shoots Jones in the arm while his buddies hit the ground.
But Jones has a plan,
And he knocks the gun from Frank’s hand,
It slides down to the water, just out of reach.

But Jones feels the knife thrust into his chest,
He grabs at Frank’s arm, misses, and falls over dead,
Then the back-up arrives and circles the scene.
Frank sees them and sighs,
“You’ll never take me alive!”
He calmly stands up, and puts a bullet in his head.

And one copper cries and another one vomits,
They all agree, it’s the biggest mess they’ve seen,
And the bodies had fallen on each-other in a pile of death.
But next mornin’ they’re gone,
The coppers pretend nothin’s wrong,
And children walk the war zone, the area’s all clean.
