I love the smell of winter

The smell of cold

The musty scent of sweaters old

It strikes memories like a match

Of winters past

And I love the winter chill

The icy tingle on my skin

The layers of blankets I wrap myself in

My breath frozen in front of my face

The windowpanes frosted

I love the winter scenes

The naked trees all laced in ice

The snow so bright it burns my eyes

It breaks and crunches beneath my feet

The sky so big and grey and bleary

I love the winter days

Shut up inside my small, cramped house

Holding my nose over steaming cups of cocoa

Wearing flannel pajamas and slippers and socks

Shivering while I watch reruns on TV

The days seem dim

The nights grow longer

The air is crisp and sharp

Cold breezes blow by

As the pale moon struggles to illuminate the sky

And fights to make peace with the dark
