Heartbreak by Numbers

7/9/05

Swept away by Twilight's call,

Here I sit in somber thought,

Toiling on the fringes of a memory.

Six thousand wishes and counting

So many things that I could say

But how do I stand up and face you

To speak those hundred words?

I'm caught between hope and despair,

Longing and three billion regrets,

This sorrow and emptiness

That only disappears for me

When your eyes meet mine.

Two million mistakes that I've made

But out of all of them there is only

One that I would change;

That one misstep

That one wrong word

That one false hope

That one dead dream

I would let go of every shred

Of every hurt and hate I hold inside

Just to change that moment

That single wrong moment where,

Somewhere between a blink and a tear,

I lost you.
