Autumn Road

Autumn Road- the place I met you

It was fall and the trees were basking in golden drops of dew and sun

We were young teens then

Trying to chase wild dreams and find ourselves

Down this old gravel path

Autumn Road- It wasn't easy to travel

Rocks, pebbles and rubble clogged the way

But we made it through to that valley of rivers and butterflies

And for the first time, you smiled a full happy smile again.

Autumn Road- The road less traveled, as some lousy poet said once

But who cares who said what?

It's all the same, as you and I say.

But something changed in the air one day...

Autumn Road- A place for you and me.

Suddenly, I was traveling down it again, this time with a different person

And when she and I get to the end, I'm not so sure I'll find you there, in that valley of rivers and butterflies.

If I don't, where have you gone? Should I worry? Should I care?

Should I go back down the road and leave the other person behind?

Or proceed and forget about you?

Autumn Road- It's a place of memories, not heartache or confusion

It'll take time

It'll take some tears and some comforting poems and hugs

But one day, I'll get over Autumn Road, the memories...

And you.

NOTE: Not one of my better stuff, but these are my feelings: spur of the moment.
