Nightmare

A candle by night,
A single drop of light,
A bleak face,
But I hold him tight.

I’m afraid to let go,
Because I don’t know,
If the desolate blackness,
Might swallow him up.

I’m scared to release my hold,
Because I’ve been told,
That he’ll disappear,
As though he was never there.

I mustn’t lose hope,
I’ve got to stay strong,
No matter how long,
This may endure.

“I’ve got you my dear,
There’s no need to fear,” I say
As his eyes slowly close,
And I know the time is near.

I gently kiss his lips,
He barely responds,
I’m losing him now,
I tried so hard to hold on...

Last breath is drawn,
Last words are spoken,
And this is what he told me,
Now I know we were meant to be.

“I love you, Baby,”
He gasps for air,
“I love you too,”
I reply in a sigh, of sadness.

I keep him in my arms,
As the last light fades,
I hear his slow heart beat,
I know it won’t be long.

I try not to cry,
But I keep wondering why,
This had to happen to him,
He was okay till today.

One long last breath,
Then silence,
His heart stops, so does mine,
I begin to cry.

His life, I know, is over now,
For my most precious friend,
It has come to an end...

Awaking from this nightmare
I look around,
I’m in my room,
It’s 3:00am, I sigh, so scared.

I cry through the night,
With my tiny candle light,
I’m so scared he might,
Lose his life tonight...
