“It is done now,” Valir said quietly as we looked through the hole at the bright void.
“What can be done, now,” I asked in a voice of rage. “Both this world and the world of Sirgo, or second earth, or whatever it’s called are gone.”
“This earth can be brought back,” said Valir, “if one puts his mind to it.”
I stood and looked at him thoughtfully. “Help me, then, to bring back this place.”
“Only you hold the power to bring this place back,” he said. “You have the staff, and you now know how to use it. You will bring it back, but when you do, it will never be the same. Forever will this place be changed and there is a very strong possibility that things will never return to the way they once were.” He took the staff and created a new cart for himself. The sorma slipped into the reins, ready to go. He handed the staff back to me. “I say farewell to you now. I’ve other places to go.”
“How am I to bring back life?”
“Use the power within you. Look to it. Embrace it. Let it free to help bring back life to this place.”
“I will need help,” I said.
“She will help you,” he said nodding. He then turned away and the cart started to fade away into nothing.
“Who is she,” I remember asking myself, and I was shocked to hear the answer.
“It is I, Theo. It’s Sara Lee.”
I ran to her and we hugged.
“Where have you been,” she asked.
“I’ve been busy,” I said, “and I don’t think that I’ll be able to talk to much for a while. I must find a way to bring back everything that was destroyed.” I looked up at the fading cart. “Thank you Valir, for everything that you have done for me.”
“Don’t thank me,” he said. “Thank Martin. He is the one that set up the whole idea of a savior search. If not for him, I’d have never found you.”
“Will we ever see you again,” I asked.
“You will,” he said, and with that, he was gone.
Sara Lee and I walked back to where my friends were, and I introduced her to Kuroga and the rest of the Ratongas. It was then decided that a great feast should be held to celebrate the new life that would soon begin. As they all departed, I told Sara Lee of what had happened over the last week. She listened intently to every word.
“I thought I was the only one left,” I finished. “I don’t know how you survived.”
“But we are not the only ones. There are others hidden within the ruins of Chicago.”
The feast was a glorious one; of tasty vegetables that I had no idea was still out there. Tribe Seyan had also killed some animals running through the ruins, and cooked them on open fires. The celebration that followed lasted well into the night, but Valir wasn’t there, so it was quite different.
After the feast had been finished, we all set out to find these people that Sara Lee talked of. Eventually, we found people, about twenty of them, living in ruins of towers and apartments. Also, we found vehicles, and food supplies, and seeds.
One of the people we found was a pilot. Some planes had survived and using one, we sent him off to find other survivors in the world. We found numerous others living in countries all around the world. We soon brought them back to America where major reconstruction had begun. The nation was no longer the same and after three years, I named Leos of Tribe Seyan, the first history keeper of our new world. We also held a census, which told us that the population was around 6,000, counting the people of Tribe Seyan and the Ratongas.
Also, Sara Lee and I had a son, which we named Josiah. He became our pride and joy in life.
With the forming of my council, called the Council of Nine, a new government had been established. The people enjoyed the way the government worked, even though it was more of a monarchy then a democracy, and peace was dominant here.
Since I had brought us back together, I was given the task to rename our world. I always wonder what Valir would think of my decision, but I decided upon Earth Two, or as it was sometimes called Sirgo, so that the story of my voyage would never be forgotten.
