I sat in the doctors office, an old man occupying the chair next to mine. He sat there despite the rest of the room being as empty as my head, which was filled with worry... Worry, the most empty emotion of all... A nurse walked in; her uniform tye-died yellow and pink. She looked down at her clipboard, studied it, and carefully checked off a name from her list of patients.
"Tarquin Fresh... Doctor will see you now." Humbly she walked back towards her work chamber. Her eyes were dead.
A crappy looking man about my own height introduced himself to me.
"I am Doctor, but how are you? Painful?"
"I'm seeing you for the sickness in my body." I said it in a low, scratchy voice to seem sicker than I was.
"Oh, I'm the best person you've ever seen? No, no no. The pain is all mine." He wore sunglasses underneath his whore cap; a scarf covered his shoulders to his chin, splattered in crappy lines of purple and blue, just like my knees after the car crash; and a scar that went under his right eye straight to his super sensitive Doctor ear. It added mystery to his person. He looked suave, real suave, but I didn't say that at all.
"I didn't say that."
"The pain is all mine." He smiled, and his teeth were as white as snowballs.
"Well Tarquin, what seems to be the pain?" He moved a scalpel to his lips and cut, thousands of deep red scars lined them already.
"I was in a car crash, and now I can't walk without crying."
"What a delightfully painful SIT-uation," Doctor punned.
"No, it hurts when I stand. Not sit." I had to correct him. He flung around quickly and smacked his hands into a desk at me having corrected him twice.
He called out to his assistant, the unflinching woman whose piercing eyes stared into the unprotected half of my soul, but not my psychically protected half. She stood up from her chair in the corner of the room and wiped herself off, her head tilted slightly to the left. There was no expression on her face except for none.
"Nurse, 30cc's of pain... STAT." She quickly grabbed a large needle and injected pain into my legs.
"AGH IT HURTS SO BAD DOCTOR I FUCKING HATE YOU!" My teeth gritted together so hard that chunks of them flew off like tooth dandruff. I would never have a smile like Doctor now.
"No; now you know true pain, Tarquin... Other pain won't feel as bad because you'll always remember this moment. This moment is the most painful pain of your pain." I saw him toss his scarf over his shoulder and leave the room, or maybe I didn't... The tears blurred my vision.
I passed out and woke up to the nurse sitting in her chair, unflinching. I got up and left, crying as I hobbled down the hallway. The old man was still sitting there, and he licked his lips so hard the hair on them came off.
"Doctor, I hate you so much. I will have your green."
