City of Silhouettes

The people in their bars are sitting
but their minds are far away
wandering far away

On a black train to nowhere
The crooked tracks are traveling
Traveling to the stars

And we sit here writing poetry
Broken lines of poetry
By the garish city lights

Whispering songs of life and death
We’re whispering
Whispering

The darkness unfolds around us
Unfolding around us

And we lay here singing
Lonely songs of misery
Broken lines of poetry

While somewhere ‘cross this barren land
The people in their bars are sitting
Lonely in their bars are sitting

And the trains go by a-rattling
On broken tracks go rattling

Far across the sky.
