Chapter 3: The Hospital Stay
" Miss? Do you know what your name is?" The doctor asked me.
" Alex," I replied back.
" Ok. Alex, Can you tell me what day it is?" The doctor asked me another question. I looked at him confused but I answered him.
"Today is Tuesday September 8th, 2006. Why are you asking these questions?"
" Just to make sure you’re alright. Do you know what's happen to you in the last two hours?" The doctor asked yet another question.
" Yeah. I was in the car with my boyfriend and we were on our way to my parent’s house so they could meet him. Where's Bryan?" I asked.
" Who is Bryan?" The doctor asked
" Bryan is my boyfriend. We were driving in the car then there was an accident..." I stopped and paused in shock. I just realized we were in the accident. "We were in the accident. Where's Bryan? Is he all right? Please let me go. I got to find Bryan. I have to know if he's okay." I was now fighting the doctors and the nurses to get them to leave me a lone. I just wanted to see him. I expected him to be awake in a hospital bed like me, asking question and fighting the nurses.
" Somebody call security!" Yelled one of the nurses.
" Please miss settle down we'll see if we can find out about... Bryan," another nurse said. Suddenly I became really tired and felt drowsy. Fighting just took away my energy and I passed out. The next thing I remember is waking up in the middle of the night. The room was dark and there were only a few lights on. My mother was sleeping in the chair next to me. She looked uncomfortable. Thinking about Bryan, I got out of bed opened the door and stepped into the bright, deserted hallway. I started down the hallway. There were no nurses or doctors running up and down the hallways. There was no one sitting at the nurses’ desk right next to me. As I walk these halls I’m filled with hopelessness.
“ Honey come back to your room please. You shouldn’t be up,” A familiar voice sounded from right behind me.
“ Mom I’m looking for a nurse or a doctor. Someone to help me,” I responded not looking back.
“ Are you looking for Bryan dear?” She asked. I stopped and turned around.
“ You know where Bryan is? Can you tell me? Please I really want to see him.” I said. I was excited.
“Only if you come back to bed. Then I will tell you.” My mother said.
“ No mom. I don’t want to go back to bed I want to find out where Bryan is,” I told her.
“ Honey please you shouldn’t be out of bed right now,” My mother said. She was calm. She didn’t want to fight with me. It’s like she was holding a secret.
“ Please moms just tell me the truth. Where is Bryan?” I was getting frustrated with her.
“ Fine. I give up. Honey he didn’t survive the car crash. I’m sorry,” She said. I stood there looking at her confused and in shock. ‘He can’t be dead. He just can’t be. I need him. I love him’ I thought to myself. I was in denial. The more that I thought about it, the more it made sense. That’s why no one told me about Bryan. That’s why everyone asked questions. That’s why Bryan and me weren’t in the same room when we were brought in. That’s when I realize my life would never be the same.
