a view from the room

spring was a riot of eager
blossoms
choking on invisible fumes from
summer’s still steady flame
as if they had forgotten how autumn
was a hard cold ground of crumpled leaves
and winter, faded.

how wonderful it would be to believe
in a faint trace of
sweet.
