Some secrets cannot be kept. Their effects are too great for the cause to remain unknown. Unfortunately, these secrets are often the ones we would die before we tell.

They say honesty is the best policy. Perhaps in a better world, with better people, honesty would work. You could say how you really felt, or what really happened, or all manner of truthful observations - just as everyone else would. The world would move much more quickly. You would never have to stop and decipher truth from lie or decipher hidden agendas or secret motives. We would all just function as we did, openly and honestly.

But let's get real. Honesty sucks. Our world is flawed. We use lies to make it easier. A little white lie to smooth over a bump of truth that might hurt. A medium sized lie to save ourselves from an embarrassing situation. Or those really big ones that we need to tell ourselves to get through the day.

The first two aren't so bad. The third one - those are where the trouble becomes. Those are the ones that grow too large to be contained. Because as much as we need to lie about it to be able to carry on - that is just how much it slowly kills us to carry it.

I know. I have secrets like that.

Don't scoff at me. I hate when people scoff at me. I hate to not be taken seriously. I may be blonde. I may be cute. I may be young. But none of these make my life and my experiences any less real.

I know. First question: 'What secrets could a pretty girl like you harbor?'

I hate this question.

Second question: 'Why tell them now?'

This is a better question. This is a question worth answering.
