Blank Despondency
By grassy fields along the shore
Where heroes walked in days of yore
Adann left footprints in the sand
As he traversed across the land.
“To what place do you travel thus,
Through the night and through the dust,
Beneath the haunted moon and sun
Beyond the lair of the dragon?”
“I go to a place way up high
Where live the stars and planets shy,
Where with much welcome go the brave
And far away from dragon’s cave.”
In grassy fields beside the shore
Where heroes marched in days of yore
Adann walked proudly, tall and grand,
And carried out his dreams’ demand.
“Wherefore do you travel thus?
Because you feel as though you must?
Because you feel the urge to run
And finish what was once begun?”
“I go to see the molten sky
And hear the mighty lightning’s cry.
To know the fiercest winds behave
At the command of one sly knave.”
Through grassy fields lining the shore
Where heroes stepped in days of yore
Adann marched steady, sword in hand,
His gaze upon the foreign land.
“For how long will you travel thus?
Until your sword has turned to rust?
Until there’s nothing to be done
And time awakes the great dragon?”
“I travel thus until I die.
Until the birds no longer fly.
Until I cross the ocean’s wave
And rest at last within my grave.”
‘Neath grassy fields beyond the shore
Where heroes fell in days of yore
Adann lay sleeping in the land,
His footprints vanished from the sand.
