I walked into class late. I swore under my breath as my foot somehow got caught on the strap of the fire bag placed carelessly by the door. Stumbling slightly, I headed toward my assigned seat, spying some of the students giggling. The teacher looked at me. She glanced meaningfully at the clock above her head and gave me a slight glare. Surprisingly, she continued the class as though I hadn’t come in five minutes late. I sat down and opened my book. I tried to concentrate but my thoughts kept drifting elsewhere. They drifted towards the person I had just encountered for the first time in a long time. I heard footsteps approach. He was there standing outside the door. Was I the only one who knew? Was I the only one who could hear him breathing heavily… waiting for me? The teacher cleared her throat. I suppose I had been asked a question. Not knowing where we were I desperately searched my textbook for an answer to an unheard question only to realize that I had grabbed the wrong textbook. I looked the teacher in the eye. Blushing furiously, I tried to think of an excuse- anything that wasn’t the truth. My vision darkened and I blinked rapidly to try and clear my vision only to see that the room was spinning. Then, everything went black and I knew no more.
